Industrial kebabs have become one of the most popular fast food options across the country, especially among young people and students, but their actual composition raises questions from a nutritional standpoint. Far from being a healthy alternative, this popular product contains ingredients that concern health specialists.
Doctor and science educator Manuel Viso , known for his critical approach to processed foods, has analyzed the risks of consuming these types of kebabs. In a video on his Instagram account, he warns that some of these products contain ingredients whose quality is far from what is advertised on the posters.

“ Kebabs contain something similar to meat . Bad fats. Too much salt, enough to stop a train,” says Viso, who emphasizes that what is often presented as lamb, beef, or chicken may actually be a mixture of undeclared meats. “ Some studies have shown that they present mixtures of meats from different species, even undeclared ones ,” he adds. Added to this are potentially carcinogenic nitrites , additives such as phosphates and starches to retain water, and sauces that “ could even preserve a mammoth .”
The result is a food with a high caloric density. " A kebab can contain about 2,000 calories , the equivalent of what you need for an entire day," he notes, and a texture " as juicy as an industrial sponge " due to the flavor enhancers. All of this, the expert points out, is in a product that may have remained for " hours and hours in a rotating meat column " without the necessary hygiene guarantees.
For those who don't want to compromise on flavor without taking the risks, Viso offers a homemade option: quality meat from a trusted butcher , whole-wheat bread made with real flour, fresh vegetables, and a healthy sauce based on natural yogurt , lemon, garlic, and spices. " With careful control of the salt , and with a good olive oil, this is truly delicious and healthy," he concludes.
